
Aluva: Thousands of Shiva devotees thronged the Aluva Manappuram to offer prayers and perform 'Bali Tharpanam' as part of Shivarathri celebrations. People started reaching the temple early morning itself and a huge rush was witnessed. All arrangements were made and the temple was spruced up for the occasion.
Devotees got into the Periyar river and offered 'bali'. 'Balipeedams' have been set up in several places for the convenience of the devotees to offer 'tharpanam'. After this they offered prayers at the Shiva temple. The Dewaswom Board have arranged as many as 150 'balipeedams'.
The 'Bali Tharpanam' will end by 11 in the morning and rituals for the 'Bali Tharpanam' as part of 'Vavu' will begin by 3 in the afternoon. This ritual will go on till 2 am on Sunday.
Special arrangements have been provided for elderly people and priority would be given for the elderly and specially disabled persons.
Basic amenities like water and shelter have been provided to the devotees
