Kozhikode: The woman who filmed a video linked to the suicide of a youth following the circulati on of defamatory content has been taken into custody. Shimjitha Musthafa, a native of Vadakara, was taken into custody by the police on Wednesday. Authorities have registered a case against her, accusing her of abetment of suicide in connection with the death of U. Deepak (41), a resident of Govindapuram, Kozhikode.
Shimjitha had reportedly gone into hiding after the police filed the case a few days ago, with indications that she might have left the state. It has also emerged that she had attempted to seek anticipatory bail. Following these developments, Shimjitha was taken into custody by the police around noon on Wednesday.

Deepak took his own life on Sunday after the woman circulated a video on social media alleging sexual assault on a bus. Deepak’s mother, Kanyaka, lodged a complaint with the City Police Commissioner on Monday morning, demanding action against Shimjitha. The complaint stated that the video had insulted her son and claimed that the woman’s deliberate, cruel, and unjust actions had led to his death.

Following the complaint, the police registered the case. The incident has also drawn public attention, with various political leaders calling for action against Shimjitha.
