Kochi: MP Shashi Tharoor stated that the increased implementation of ‘work from home’ system amid Covid crisis has paved way to check the unwanted urbanization.
He was speaking at the lecture series ‘Beyond Square Feet’ organized by Asset Homes on their Facebook page as part of World Habitat Day on October 9. The theme of World Habitat Day 2020 was Housing for All: A better Urban Future.
Tharoor pointed out that if works for clients in America and Europe can be done from Hyderabad and Bengaluru, so can be done from our houses in rural villages.
It is in this regard the vision of late APJ Abdul Kalam that ‘the facilities of the cities should be made available in villages, gains importance. Many had then criticized Kalam calling it a daydream. But Covid crisis made us implement it. If better broadband and uninterrupted power is available in rural areas, unwanted urbanization and its toxic side effects can be controlled, he further added.
Asset Homes Manging Director V Sunil Kumar also spoke at the event.
