Kannur: AICC spokesperson and Keralite Dr Shama Mohamed said that male domination is predominant in Kerala parties and she has experienced it.
“Kerala is a state with more women. In Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, women occupy front seats. At party functions of Congress party in Kerala, have you seen any women occupy the front rows,” Shama asked.
I am the only person from Kerala to be the spokesperson and this is the first time a woman is occupying the post. If a man had occupied the seat, things would have been different. I am not an AICC person for them but an ordinary woman, she said.
In party functions in Kerala, a situation prevails that women are not even allowed to sit on front rows but at the same time they lament of changes happening on these fronts.
Shama also said that reservation for women must be implemented. The Centre can pass a resolution. But the Modi government is not doing it. The Congress stand for 33 percent reservation for women. The Congress can implement this within party.
Shama also added that in Kerala, women are not given the importance that they usually get in other states.
Meanwhile, there are rumours that Shama may contest from Kannur. There are also reports that Congress may field Shama in Dharmadaom against chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. She told Mathrubhumi News that she will enter the electoral fray for the upcoming Assembly polls.
