Kochi: The High Court has granted bail to accused Dr Ruwais in the case where a PG student of the Thiruvannathapuram medical college died by suicide. The court granted bail on the grounds that the accused was a student.
Ruwais had pleaded in court that he should be considered as a student and that continuing in judicial custody will affect his studies and career. He pointed out that he was in custody since December 7 and was interrogated in police custody five times. He also informed the court that he will cooperate with the case. With this, the court granted bail with certain conditions.
Meanwhile, the court observed that someone like the accused who excels in studies and has a good academic background also engaged in demanding dowry.
Dr. Shahna, a PG medical student at Thiruvananthapuram medical college, killed herself on December 4 after Ruwais, whom she was in a relationship with, backed out of marriage talks due to unfulfilled dowry demands.
