Thiruvananthapuram: A clash broke out between activists of the SFI and KSU in Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram, on Monday night following the Kerala University Union elections.

The confrontation occurred after the SFI secured a sweeping victory in the university union elections, winning 35 of the 37 seats. Tension had been building at the university headquarters since the morning, with a heavy police presence deployed in anticipation of possible unrest.

Later in the evening, supporters of both organisations reportedly engaged in stone pelting, escalating the situation. Police subsequently resorted to a lathi-charge and used water cannons to disperse the crowd.

Senior CPM leaders, including A.A. Rahim and M.V. Jayarajan, arrived at the scene as the situation intensified. Meanwhile, SFI activists staged a sit-in protest against the police action.
