Ernakulam: Police on Saturday recorded the arrest of an Assam native in connection with the sexual assault of a toddler migrant girl in Perumbavoor here.
Earlier, police took five individuals into custody in connection with the complaint filed by the survivor’s mother. However, police now maintain that only one person committed the alleged crime, that is Assam native Sajalal. He has been slapped with POCSO charges. Police are awaiting medical examination reports concerned to make the next move.
The incident came to light after the girl, the daughter of a woman employed in the plywood company, complained about physical discomfort to her parents. Following this, she was taken to a nearby hospital and her parents later lodged a complaint with the police.
The complaint had accused Assam natives, who are co-workers of the girl’s mother. Later, police received CCTV visuals of them walking along with the girl. According to reports, the accused took the girl to the workers’ resting point at the backside of the company and committed the crime.
Meanwhile, the health condition of the girl is stable.
