Mannarkkad: SC-ST Special Court has sentenced a sexual abuse case accused to six years of imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs. 90,000/-.  Special Court Judge Jomon John has sentenced Elumbulasserry Chorompadamveettil Shereef(44) for attempting to sexually abuse a woman belong to SC. 

The incident took place in July 2022 in a rubber plantation as the woman reached there to tie her goat up in the plantation. Shereef, who was there at the time, had tried to sexually abuse the woman. The woman, who had escaped from the attempt, lodged a complaint with Mannarkkad police based on which a case was registered. The investigation was led by then Mannarkkad DySP VA Krishnadas. 

Based on the charge sheet submitted by DySP, the court has sentenced Shereef on charges of insulting the modesty of woman, sexual harrassment, trying to humiliate the woman knowing that she belongs to SC category and prevention of atrocities against SC-ST people. The court asked the person to give Rs.20,000/- from the fine of Rs.90,000/- to the woman.
