Thiruvananthapuram: In a setback for the Congress, the Election Commission has removed the name of Vyshna Suresh — an LLB student who had recently attracted wide attention with her candidacy — from the voters list for the Muttada ward in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation election.

The Commission took action after verifying the complaint submitted by the CPM. The final electoral roll was published on Saturday.

Vyshna Suresh’s name is not included in it. The CPM had complained that the address provided by Vyshna Suresh for inclusion in the voters’ list was incorrect and that her name should therefore be deleted. Corporation officials have stated that there is an issue with the address she submitted. Although Vyshna has her family home in Muttada, she currently resides in a rented house at Ambalamukku.

According to the rules, a person can contest for the council only if their name appears in the voters list of any ward within the Corporation. Meanwhile, Vyshna has the option to file an appeal against the decision. Both the Congress and Vyshna have decided to appeal. The uncertainty has arisen at a time when campaigning is already underway in Muttada.
