Thiruvananthapuram: Aneesh, a senior civil police officer at Vanchiyoor police station, has been suspended by commissioner C Nagaraju for allegedly beating up a youngster who had supposedly called up the control room during night, for reporting a physical assault case. A team led by Shankumugham Assistant Commissioner has launched a detailed investigation into the incident.

Saanish, a native of Kottiyam, works as a nursing assistant in a private hospital in Enchakkal. He was allegedly beaten up by the police on Monday night. It is said that Saanish, who had witnessed physical assault on an individual at the Kavaradi junction had called up the control room to report the incident to the officials. Following this, Vanchiyoor police called up Saanish over the phone around 12:30 AM, and asked him to reach the Kavaradi junction. The police are alleged to have beaten up Saanish at the spot without any specific reasons. In the complaint filed by Saanish at the commissioner office, Saanish mentioned that he was ill treated at the Vanchiyoor police station as well, where he had arrived for filing a complaint in connection with the incident. He reached the station after nursing the injuries he sustained in the assault by police..

The police had initially denied the accusations, however, Saanish produced the CCTV visuals of the incident in which the cops could be clearly seen beating up the individual. However, the Vanchiyoor police claims that the complainant was in an inebriated condition at the time of the incident. They claim that Saanish had called up the control room for no specific reason. The cops also accused the complainant of verbally abusing them.
