Alappuzha: Following the findings of an inquiry commission, the CPM has decided to take punitive measures in Alappuzha, where sectarian activities have intensified in recent months.
Based on the findings, action has been taken against 40 party workers, including Alappuzha district secretariat members PP Chitharanjan, MLA, and M Sathyapalan, who were demoted from the district secretariat to the district committee. At the same time, CPM councillor A Shanavas, accused in the Karunagappally drug smuggling case, was expelled from the party.
Further, Alappuzha North, South, and Haripad Area Committees were dissolved.
