Palakkad: A scooter caught fire when attempting to start it at Yakkara near Chandanamkurissi around 5:30 PM on Saturday. The scooter belonged to U. Anisha, a member of first Ward of Nallepilly panchayat. The scooter was completely destroyed occurred.
Anisha and her two children were visiting her maternal home in Chandanamkurissi and the scooter was parked on the road near the house. The fire broke out when Anisha was attempting to start the scooter to go to Palakkad on Saturday evening.
Fortunately, Anisha’s son noticed smoke coming from the rear end of the scooter and told his mother who then moved away from the vehicle. Anisha and her son ran away from the spot thereby averting a tragedy.
The locals rushed to the spot but could not douse the flames. The scooter reportedly burned for three and a half hours. Palakkad fire rescue force reached the spot and extinguished the fire. The cause for the fire remains unclear. The fire force officials said that it took them over twenty minutes to extinguish the fire.
