Thrissur: A professor in the School of Drama and Fine Arts under the University of Calicut here was arrested over allegations of sexually assaulting a student. Associate Professor S Sunil Kumar was arrested by the police from Kannur on Tuesday. 

Earlier, he was suspended from the college after the student filed a complaint against him. Following this, police booked the professor.

On Monday, demanding dismissal and arrest of Sunil Kumar, the students observed a strike on the campus. They also alleged that the police were not taking appropriate action and put pressure to withdraw the complaint. 

The complainant student alleged that Sunil Kumar sexually harassed and threatened her. The student also complained that another person who came to the college as a visiting faculty also misbehaved with her. The student also tried to commit suicide after allegedly facing sexual harassment from Sunil Kumar.

Further, actress Divya Gopinath has also come forward with allegations against Sunil Kumar. The actress revealed her ordeal along with screenshots of inappropriate messages sent by Sunil Kumar through WhatsApp.
