Kalpetta: Salary distribution for the employees of colleges under the Kerala Veterinary University, Pookode has stopped as the state has failed at releasing funds for the same. 1250 employees including teaching, non-teaching staff, and farm workers have not received their salaries even after March 10.

Rs 95 crores is allocated in the budget for salaries and other expenses of the university and the government has been providing this every year. It is usually disbursed in the respective months. The balance amount is met from the revenue of the university. Rs 9.7 crores is required for one month’s salary and pension in the university and its centres, out of which Rs 7.86 crore comes from the government. One to two crores is used from the income received at the farms and other sources.

The government has not yet paid this month’s due of Rs 7.86 crores. Although it is said that the funds will be released this week, the employees fear that the state government’s financial crisis will affect their salary distribution as well.
