Thiruvananthapuram: The Public Works Department (PWD) has drawn up a four-phase action plan to complete road development works ahead of the annual Sabarimala pilgrimage. The works, part of a comprehensive ₹450 crore package, will be carried out in phases from July until early November.

PWD Minister P.K. Basheer said all projects would be completed before the start of the Mandalam-Makaravilakku pilgrimage season. He also warned that strict action would be taken against officials and contractors who fail to complete the works within the stipulated timeframe.

Project implementation

July–August

New projects will be prepared, while a list of incomplete works from previous years will be finalised. Administrative sanctions and tender procedures will also be completed. In addition, a joint meeting involving the Public Works Department, National Highways Authority and Kerala Water Authority will be held, along with a special meeting of MLAs.

August–September

The focus will shift to priority works, with efforts to complete pending projects from previous years. Road safety projects worth ₹15 crore will also be implemented. Crash barriers, speed breakers, reflectors and signboards will be installed at accident-prone locations.

September–October

BMBC/BC surfacing and drainage works will be undertaken along the main pilgrimage routes. Roads damaged during Jal Jeevan Mission works will be repaired, while renovation of government rest houses will also be completed.

Quality inspections and safety assessments will be carried out during late October and early November to ensure all works are completed before the pilgrimage season begins.
