
Kottayam: A bus carrying Sabarimala pilgrims met with an accident on the Erumeli–Sabarimala route on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at the Attimala bend on the downhill stretch of Kanamala, where the vehicle carrying the pilgrims rammed into a crash barrier and overturned. One person died in the accident. The deceased has been identified as Hariharan (40), a native of Haveri, Karnataka.
Six others sustained serious injuries in the accident.
Although the bus overturned, a major tragedy was averted as it was stopped by a nearby tree. The vehicle involved in the accident was carrying pilgrims from Karnataka. The location is known to be accident-prone. There were 33 passengers on board. The injured have been shifted to hospitals.
Efforts are currently underway to recover the bus.
