Thiruvananthapuram: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the Sabarimala gold theft is reportedly set to question UDF convener and MP Adoor Prakash over his alleged links with the main accused, Unnikrishnan Potti. Sources said the inquiry follows a list compiled by the SIT of individuals connected to Potti. However, Prakash has maintained that he has not received any such intimation from SIT. 

Prakash had accompanied Potti during a visit to meet Congress veteran Sonia Gandhi in Delhi, raising suspicions that have now drawn SIT attention.

Earlier statements recorded by the SIT from former Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran and ex-Devaswom Board President P.S. Prashant prompted the probe to widen.

When photographs of Prakash with Potti surfaced, the ruling CPM used the images to politically attack the UDF, framing it as retaliation against the UDF’s criticism of the CPM over the case.

Delhi visits under scrutiny

Investigators hinted that Potti visited Sonia Gandhi’s residence in Delhi twice. On one occasion, Prakash accompanied him, and MP Anto Antony was present on the other.

Earlier, Prakash said he was present only because Potti is a voter in his constituency and the meeting related to a scheduled appointment. However, the SIT is examining how Potti secured meetings with Sonia Gandhi so quickly, raising concerns over potential influence.

Prakash maintained that his relationship with Potti is strictly limited to social service activities and constituency matters. He cited his participation in public events, including the handover of an ambulance donated by Bheema Jewellery to the government.

He added that he accompanies anyone who seeks his attention, denying further ties with Potti. Prakash expressed his willingness to cooperate with the investigation and said that, if evidence exists, legal action should be taken against him.
