Kollam: The Kollam Vigilance Court on Tuesday extended the judicial remand of former Travancore Devaswom Board president and ex-MLA A Padmakumar by 14 days in connection with the Sabarimala gold theft case. The court said it would consider his bail application on January 7.

Padmakumar was produced before the court after the expiry of his earlier remand period. After hearing the matter, the court ordered that he remain in judicial custody for 14 more days.

Court extends judicial custody

The vigilance court reviewed the case following the completion of Padmakumar’s previous remand term. Based on the submissions, the court decided to extend his custody, while scheduling January 7 for hearing his bail plea.

Remarks to media outside court

While being taken to the court premises, Padmakumar responded briefly to questions from mediapersons. Reacting to questions about other accused persons allegedly naming him in the case, Padmakumar said, “Ayyappan will take care,” adding that a “god-like figure is not a scavenger.”
