SIT seizes more than 400 grams of gold from Ballari trader Govardhanan as part of the ongoing Sabarimala gold probe

Ballari (Karnataka): The Special Investigation Team (SIT) recovered gold linked to the Sabarimala robbery from the shop of Ballari-based jeweller Govardhan, authorities said on Friday. The operation, led by SP Sasidharan, uncovered gold bars weighing over 400 grams. Gold coins and approximately ₹2,00,000 in cash were also seized from the home of Unnikrishnan Potti in Pulimath, Pathanamthitta.
Investigators found that Potti, who is currently in SIT custody, sold the stolen gold from Sabarimala temple to Govardhan, a native of Ballari and owner of Roddam Jewellery. Govardhan admitted purchasing the gold. The two reportedly developed a friendship at the Sri Rampura Ayyappa Swamy temple, where Potti introduced himself as a Sabarimala priest and participated in rituals. Now, SIT has taken Potti to Sri Rampura to gather more evidence.
According to Mathrubhumi News, Potti allegedly sold 476 grams of gold at market value in 2019, which Govardhan purchased. Records indicate financial transactions between the two.
Chennai-based Smart Creations reportedly transferred gold to middlemen, including one identified as Kalpesh, following Potti’s instructions.
