Thiruvananthapuram: CPI has elected P Santhosh Kumar as a candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. He will be contested in one of the seats which will fall vacant in Kerala.
CPI state executive committee elected P Santhosh Kumar as its candidate during the meeting held here on Tuesday.
Santhosh Kumar is serving as CPI Kannur district secretary and state council member. He was the former AIYF national general secretary. Though he contested the assembly elections in 2011 from Irikkoor in Kannur, he faced defeat.
Santhosh Kumar who is one of the close aides of CPI secretary Kanam Rajendran is popular as the face of youth.
CPM is likely to announce the candidate on Friday.
The elections are being held as the terms of senior Congress leader A K Antony, K Somaprasad (CPI-M) and M V Shreyams Kumar (LJD) will expire on April 2.
Two of the three Rajya Sabha seats are likely to be won by the LDF.
