Kochi: The Kerala High Court has granted two days escort parole to ‘Ripper Jayanandan’ for attending the launch of his novel which he wrote during his time in the prison. The launch is scheduled on December 23. Taking this into account, Justice PV Kunhikrishnan ordered parole for two days (December 22 and 23).

A petition in this regard was submitted by his wife Indira. Jayanandan’s daughter Keerthi, who is a lawyer by profession, had appeared in the court taking up the case.

The court did not forget to appreciate Keerthi, who put up a fight seeking parole for her father who is accused in five murder cases.

Jayanandan is currently lodged in the Viyyur jail. He has been imprisoned for the last 17 years. 23 cases have been registered against Jayanandhan including five murder cases. He had escaped jail twice, and been acquitted of charges in three murder cases in the time period.

In the petition, Indira contested that 17 years of imprisonment have had a profound impact on her husband. According to her, Jayanandan had transformed as a person. The novels and books written by him were proofs for it.

The court, considering it as a special case, granted escort parole to the prisoner. Earlier, Jayanandan was granted similar parole for two days to attend the marriage of his daughter.

The court asked Jayanandan to be always grateful of the legal battle fought by his wife and daughter on his behalf.
