Kolkata: West Bengal governor Dr C V Ananda Bose has appointed retired Kerala IPS officer M Wahab as vice-chancellor of Aliah University in Kolkata.
Meanwhile, the governor’s decision to appoint a former police officer as VC of the university was heavily criticised by academicians. They said the decision was highly illogical and impractical.
The decision comes after the controversial appointment of Subhro Kamal Mukherjee, the former chief justice of Karnataka high court, as the VC of Rabindra Bharati University. Apparently, the ruling party TMC is also agitated by the governor’s decision.
Meanwhile, former Kolkata mayor Bikash Ranjan said that he failed to understand the logic behind the governor’s decision. M Wahab is set to assume office next week.
