
Chennai: A partially burnt body of a research scholar was found on the premises of IIT Madras on Thursday night. The deceased is identified as Unnikrishnan Nair, a Project Coordinator who belongs to Kerala.
The body of Unnikrishnan Nair was found beside a hockey field amidst the bushes on Thursday night and it was the students who first saw the body. The body was in a partially burnt state.
According to latest reports, a 11-page suicide note was found by the police at his residence in Velachery. Unnikrishnan belongs to Ernakulam and was a guest lecturer at the institute.
Chennai police said that the deceased was a man in his mid-20s. But reports from the college confirmed that the body was that of project coordinator Unnikrishnan Nair. Police is yet to confirm the identity and said as the body has been charred beyond recognition, it would be difficult to identify it.
The body has been shifted to the Royapettah hospital for autopsy. Kotturpuram police registered a case of suspicious death and are investigating.
