Kannur: Renowned media person MV Nikesh Kumar, who has recently announced his decision to step into active politics ending journalistic career, would likely be included into CPM Kannur district committee as a special invitee. It is expected that a decision on this would be taken in the next state committee meeting. A party member, Nikesh Kumar has intimated the state leadership about his interest to work in Kannur district.
Though Nikesh had fought in the assembly election in 2016 from Azhikode constituency, he was defeated by KM Shaji of IUML. After his public announcement to become active in politics, Nikesh has moved to his house at Barnasserry.
Since his entry into politics as a candidate from Azhikode, Nikesh Kumar has been participating in the party activities in Kannur, said MV Jayarajan, CPM district secretary. His future roles would be decided once he becomes more active in Kannur politics.
It is said that, CPM is keen to field NIkesh from Mattannur or Taliparamba in the assembly elections in 2026. The party is of the opinion that his failure in the Azhikode constituency was due to the delay in deciding his candidacy.
