Malappuram: Malappuram District Collector V R Vinod has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the district on Sunday, May 25, in view of the continuing heavy rainfall. The decision follows the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for the district.
The holiday applies to all educational institutions, including madrasas and tuition centres. The announcement was made by the Collector through a Facebook post.
The IMD has issued a red alert for the districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod starting from Sunday, citing the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall.
Based on this warning, the Collector has also directed that all mining activities in the district be suspended. In addition, the public has been advised to avoid non-essential travel at night through the Nilambur–Nadukani ghat road.
