Kochi: The Uttar Pradesh police have arrested Campus Front leader Rauf Shareef in connection with the Hathras case. The UP police had come to Kerala the other day with the production warrant issued by the Mathura court.
Rauf, who was arrested by ED earlier, was granted bail the other day. Following this, the UP police came to Kakkanad and arrested him. The National Investigation Agency had registered a case in connection with the Popular Front of India organising a weapons training camp at Narath in Kannur district.
After learning that black money deals were made as part of the camp, a special unit of the Enforcement Directorate had registered a case. The ED later arrested Rauf Shareef in this regard.
After this, the UP police had registered a case against Rauf in connection with the Hathras riot bid. Though the UP police had come to Ernakulam to arrest Rauf Shareef, they returned home after the hearing in the bail plea was postponed.
Following the Hathras gang-rape and murder case, the UP police had arrested three persons including Malayalee journalist Siddique Kappan, UP natives Atiq-ur Rehman and Masood Ahmed Alam on the way to the incident spot. The UP police later registered an Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) case against them.
