Alappuzha: The Kerala government has reformed the ration supply mechanism in the state. From now onwards, ration will be distributed in two phases to cardholders under various categories. The move is aimed at resolving technical issues faced by the EPOS server by reducing the month-end rush.
As per the new changes, yellow and pink priority cardholders will be distributed ration before 15th of every month. Whereas, blue and white cardholders shall receive ration after 15th of every month.
As of now, cardholders could collect their ration on any day of the month. With the implementation of the new move, many people could lose their opportunity to receive their monthly ration, opined ration dealers.
Further, there is lack of clarity over whether the priority cardholders, who fail to collect ration before 15th (of every month), could obtain it later. If the food department decides not to offer ration after the said date, then it will be a violation of the National Food Security Act.
