Kozhikode: Muslims in Kerala will begin their fasts for the holy month of Ramadan starting on Sunday, following the sighting of the crescent moon on Saturday, which marks the commencement of the fasting period. The moon was visible in areas such as Ponnani in Malappuram and Kadalundi in Kozhikode, according to reports from various Qazis.

In Oman and other Gulf countries, the fasting period for Ramadan started on Saturday. In northern Indian states, Ramadan fasting will begin on Sunday.

This marks the beginning of a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection for Muslims across the world, with variations in the commencement depending on local moon sightings.
