Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar has criticised the state government for failing to use the powers granted by the Centre to protect human lives from life-threatening wild animal attacks.

Addressing the media after a meeting with the Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, Chandrasekhar questioned why the state government was not taking necessary action. He alleged that the government’s approach reflects a clear negligence towards the concerns of people living in mountain regions.

He also pointed out that while the state had issued orders to control the wild pig population in Ottapalam, similar measures were not implemented in Nilambur. 'This clearly highlights the dual standards in law enforcement,’ he said.

He further criticised the state government for misleading the public by claiming that central approval was required to take action.

Chandrasekhar also took aim at the Congress party, accusing it of raising the issue only during election campaigns. For the past nine years, the Congress has failed to take a clear stance on this matter, he said.

Calling for accountability, he urged Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi and former MP Rahul Gandhi to publicly clarify their position on the issue.
