Thiruvananthapuram: Former DGP R Sreelekha has officially joined the BJP. On Wednesday at around 4 pm, she accepted party membership from BJP state president K Surendran.

Sreelekha is the first female IPS officer from the Kerala cadre.

Earlier, the party's state leadership had held discussions about bringing Sreelekha into the BJP.  She joined the party following in the footsteps of former DGPs T P Senkumar and Jacob Thomas.
