
Kozhikode: Renowned Malayalam film producer PV Gangadharan, who breathed his last on Friday morning, was also a prominent political figure.
Gangadharan embarked on his political journey in 1961 as a member of the Kerala Students Union (KSU). He demonstrated exceptional leadership by mobilising thousands of students, leading a massive march across Malabar, spanning Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur districts.

He joined Indian National Congress in 1961 and became a member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in 2005.
He had unsuccessfully contested Kerala Legislative Assembly election from Kozhikode North for Congress in 2011.
Gangadharan has also held the position of president at Azhchavattom Congress unit committee, treasurer at the Mankavu Mandalam Committee, chairman at the Indira Center for Political Studie, president at the Congress Relief Committee, patron at Nehru Vichara Vedi, chairman at KG Adiyodi Cultural Center, chairman at UDF finance committee for both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections since 1977, in Kozhikode constituencies.
Gangadharan had served as director of the news channel Indiavision, under the leadership of Muslim League leader MK Muneer. He later became the vice-chairman of the channel. However, he resigned from the posts in 2011 in protest of the channel airing news related to ice cream parlour case.
