Suresh Gopi warns against using extreme poverty eradication figures as a political tool, calling it a betrayal of the public.

Thrissur (Kerala): Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi stated on Wednesday that eliminating extreme poverty is a fundamental right of the people, not an act of generosity, and should never be exploited to secure political power.
Speaking to reporters, the Union Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Tourism emphasised, "But, actual figures should not be exaggerated to be used as a tool to betray the public and gain power for another five years." He added, "That would be a huge betrayal."
Gopi’s remarks came in response to questions about the Kerala government’s recent claim that extreme poverty has been eradicated in the state. The opposition Congress has criticised the announcement, calling it "pure fraud”.
