Alappuzha: The believers community of the Ernakulam-Angamaly archdiocese put up an extraordinary resistance against the celebration of the Eucharist as dictated by the Synod. This was something that even the priests did not expect.

The general consensus among the clergy was that one mass on Christmas day be celebrated as prescribed by the Synod. It was decided that the midnight mass would also be considered under this. However, there was a big protest against this in many parishes and many believers have taken the stand against the clergy by strongly refusing to participate.

The priests had decided to hold one mass in Synod style as per the instructions of the Pope. When the priests dared to offer this type of mass, the choir refused to sing. No one expected such strong resistance from the believers given the Pope’s instructions. Uniform-mass was held in many places after somehow pacifying the people.
