Kozhikode: The makeshift hut setup by protestors at Avikkal against the proposed sewage treatment plant was demolished on Sunday. The action came at a time when the protest against another treatment plant in Kothi was intensifying.

The camp at Avikkal was set up a year ago. Local residents who went out for morning walk on Sunday saw that the camp, which was sound till Saturday night, had been destroyed.

Protesters said the camp had police protection till now and alleged that it could not have been destroyed without the help of police officials and the municipal corporation.
