Opposition MPs from Kerala, including Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, held a protest at the Makar Dwar of Parliament on Saturday demanding financial assistance for the people affected by the landslides in Wayanad.

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra says, "The government is refusing to give a special package to Wayanad. We have requested the Home Minister, we have written to the Prime Minister...Himachal Pradesh has also seen similar large-scale devastation and there is a Congress government there. They are seeking help from the Centre...and yet in both cases the Central government is denying the victims their due because of politics. They are citizens of India. There should be no discrimination during natural disasters..."

Kerala is seeking help from the central government to deal with the aftermath of the disaster. However, the state is facing a challenge as the Defense Ministry has asked the state to pay for the helicopter rescue operations and other services carried out during the crisis.

The central government has also not announced a special financial aid package for the state, citing Kerala's delay in submitting the necessary report called the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA).

In response, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan criticised the delay, calling it unfair to the people who are still suffering from the disaster.
