Economist and thinker Prof M Kunhaman refused to accept the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for his autobiography 'Ethiru'.

Speaking to mathrubhumi.com, he said he has conveyed the matter to the akademi secretary when the latter called Kunhaman to convey about the honour.

"I did not write for awards. It is just a product of my commitment to society and academics," said Kunhaman.

He added that he is thankful to the akademi for considering him for the awards. "But I can't accept it. Awards don't matter to me," he said.

Kunhaman, a retired professor, had a 40-year-long career with Kerala University and Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

The akademi awards were announced two days ago. Apart from Kunhaman, retired college teacher TJ Joseph also bagged the award for autobiography.
