Wayanad: General Secretary of the Congress party, Priyanka Gandhi, filed her nomination papers on Wednesday.
At the time of nomination submission, five people, including the candidate, were permitted to enter the Collector's chamber. The first set of papers was submitted with her son and husband who were also present. After they left, Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi entered the chamber, where the second set of papers was submitted in their presence.
Ahead of the filing, she addressed a massive gathering in Kalpetta. In her speech, she mentioned that after 35 years, this is the first time she is campaigning for herself, rather than for her mother, Sonia Gandhi, her brother Rahul Gandhi, or other party colleagues.
Gandhi is up against Navya Haridas, the candidate fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate Sathyan Mokeri. Haridas is a two-time Kozhikode Corporation councillor.
Rahul Gandhi has expressed confidence that both Rae Bareli and Wayanad constituencies will be represented by members of the same family, indicating his belief that Priyanka Gandhi will win the Wayanad seat.
If Priyanka Gandhi wins, she will be the third member of the Gandhi family to enter Parliament.
