Alappuzha: Kerala State Food Commission has intervened in the misappropriation of peas and pulses allotted under the Prime Minister’s Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY).

Food commission chairman, KV Mohankumar has sought a report from the civil supplies director and state ration controller. The action was taken following the report by Mathrubhumi News.

State has taken action to pay off the interest and complete the distribution. The Public Distribution Department has given instructions to distribute the items to AAY and priority card holders who did not get their share last time.

Food commission made the intervention as the pulses and peas were allotted to those who come under the National Food Security Act. Arrangements will be made for card holders to inform the commission if they did not receive the grains.

As per the PMGKAY scheme, card holders were provided 1 kg of peas or pulses each month. This was allotted by the Centre from May. The distribution was done smoothly until October. However, it was misappropriated from November after there was a shortage of food kits.

38.36 lakh people in the state are eligible to receive peas or pulses from the Centre as per PMGKAY scheme. Out of this, 12,33 lakh people are yet to receive their share for the month of November.
