Kannur: After being granted bail by the Thalassery Principal District and Sessions Court on Friday, former Kannur District Panchayat President PP Divya addressed the media upon her release from Pallikunnu jail in Kannur. She explained that her allegation regarding Additional District Magistrate (ADM) K Naveen Babu’s death was made with good intentions and expressed hope that the court would provide her an opportunity to prove her innocence. Divya also emphasised her desire for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Naveen Babu’s death, in line with the wishes of his family.

Speaking to reporters, Divya said, “I am deeply saddened by Naveen Babu’s death. It has been two decades since I have been involved in public service. Over the last fourteen years, as a representative of the district panchayat, I have collaborated with many officials, public representatives, and individuals from various political backgrounds.”

She continued, “In all my interactions with officials, I have only ever acted with good intentions. I still believe in the rule of law, and I am prepared to present my side in court. Like Naveen Babu’s family, I, too, want a proper investigation into his death. I am hopeful that the court will grant me a chance to prove my innocence.”

District Sessions Judge K T Nisar Ahmed granted Divya bail with conditions that she must not leave the district and must appear before the investigating officer every Monday.

Divya was arrested on October 29, hours after the Thalassery District Sessions Court dismissed her anticipatory bail application.
