The severe weather caused widespread power outages, affecting around 30 lakh consumers

Kottayam: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has incurred significant losses following two days of heavy rain across the state. Over 12,000 electricity poles snapped across 25 electrical circles within 48 hours, while 48 transformers were also damaged. Authorities have reported total losses amounting to Rs 56.7 crore.
The severe weather caused widespread power outages, affecting around 30 lakh consumers across 18,100 transformer areas. According to the KSEB Distribution Division, power supply has yet to be restored for approximately 8.6 lakh consumers. (as of Tuesday morning)
KSEB is making strenuous efforts to resolve the outages, deploying substation staff and other resources to the affected areas. Distribution Division Director Saji Paulose stated that if the rains subside, full power restoration is expected by Tuesday evening.
