Thrissur: CPM's Politburo members have dropped campaigning for Wayanad’s Lok Sabha seat where Annie Raja is contesting against Rahul Gandhi.
It is amusing how senior CPI leader Annie Raja, who is working shoulder to shoulder at the national level, is contesting from that seat, but no active campaign support is seen from the Politburo. Even Brinda Karat, who has always stood strong with her, was not seen coming forward in Annie Raja’s election campaigns. Out of 20 constituencies, only Wayanad does not have a program from Polit Bureau members.
From April 15, General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, Politburo members Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat, Tapan Sen and Subhashini Ali will begin their campaigns; however, in Wayanad, only Central Committee member Viju Krishna will be participating in the campaign activities.
Similarly, in the previous Lok Sabha election, Yechury avoided Wayanad in the first phase of campaigning. Later, when this matter was discussed, he participated in the road show.
Meanwhile, CPI regional general secretary D. Raja and central secretariat member and AITUC general secretary Amarjeet Kaur will be seen campaigning in Wayanad in the coming days.
