Kozhikode: Police have arrested the prime accused in the case where a female employee of a private hotel allegedly jumped from a building to escape a sexual assault attempt.  The arrested individual is Devadas of Mambatta, the owner of the private hotel ‘Sanketham,’ police said. He was arrested by Kunnamkulam police around 4 a.m. on Wednesday while trying to escape to Ernakulam.

He was taken into custody by Kunnamkulam police and brought to Mukkam on Wednesday morning. “We have sufficient evidence against the accused. The other accused in the case, Riyas and Suresh, employees of the same hotel, will be arrested soon,” said Thamarassery DySP AP Chandran.

The incident occurred on Saturday, February 1, around 11:00 p.m. The woman, a native of Payyannur, was playing a mobile game inside her residence near the hotel where she works.  Knowing she was alone, as her two friends were not there, Devadas, along with Riyas and Suresh, allegedly broke into the house and attempted to sexually assault her.

In a desperate attempt to escape, she jumped from the first floor, sustaining serious pelvic injuries. She is currently undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College.

At the time of the attack, the woman was playing a mobile game, and the screen recording feature captured the incident. This video evidence was later shared by her family as digital proof of the crime. Neighbors, hearing her screams, rushed to the scene and took her to the hospital. The police have filed charges against Devadas, Riyas, and Suresh under various sections, including trespassing and assault on a woman.
