Ambalapuzha (Alappuzha): Dr. Ambalapuzha Gopakumar (80), a poet, historian, orator, and former head of the Malayalam department at Alappuzha S.D. College, passed away at Padinjare Nada here on Sunday. He was a prominent figure in cultural circles for decades and was a mentor to hundreds of students both within and outside Kerala.
He published over ten poetry collections and more than eight prose works. He received numerous awards for his contributions to literature, including the Kerala State Institute of Children’s Literature Award, Venmani Award, and Janmashtami Award.
His family members include Prof. G. Vijayalakshmi (wife), a retired teacher from the Malayalam department of S.D. College, and Devanarayanan and Krishnagopalan (children).
