PM Modi inaugurated development projects worth over ₹10,000 crore in Kerala, covering highways, railway stations, and a polypropylene unit at Kochi Refinery.

Kochi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated and dedicated to the nation a series of major development projects in Kerala worth over Rs 10,000 crore. The initiatives, spanning multiple central ministries, mark a significant boost to infrastructure, transport, energy, and rural development in the state.
During his visit, Modi launched projects under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the Ministry of Rural Development, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, and the Ministry of Railways.
Key highlights include:
- Foundation stone for a Rs 5,500-crore Polypropylene unit at the Kochi Refinery of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).
- Inauguration of two major highway projects, each costing over Rs 2,000 crore, aimed at improving regional connectivity.
- Dedication of railway sector initiatives worth Rs 142 crore, including a new train service to enhance sustainable transport.
- Inauguration of three redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme—Shoranur Junction, Kuttippuram, and Changanassery—modernised at a total cost of Rs 52 crore with upgraded passenger facilities, better circulation areas, and improved accessibility.

Earlier in the day, the prime minister held a massive road show in Kochi, drawing tens of thousands of supporters ahead of the poll-bound state elections. The 300-metre-long procession at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium saw Modi greet the enthusiastic crowd from an open-top vehicle adorned with flowers. Supporters waved BJP flags, wore saffron caps, and enthusiastically chanted the prime minister’s name.
The visit began at Kochi International Airport around 11:30 am, from where Modi travelled by helicopter to the naval base and then by road to the Marine Drive event. He also attended the golden jubilee celebrations of the Akhila Kerala Dheevara Sabha, recognising the contributions of the fishing community in the state.
