PK Jayalakshmi expresses happiness over acquittal in corruption cases
Sulthan Bathery: Former minister PK Jayalakshmi has expressed relief over getting acquitted from the corruption charges against her. In an exclusive interview with Mathrubhumi, Jayalakshmi opened up about her emotional struggle after being named accused in two corruption cases.
The vigilance had acquitted her from the two cases the other day.
“After completing 5 years as a minister, I faced defeat in the last assembly polls. Following this, a popular TV channel continuously raised allegations against me and my family. They continued it for over a month. I got emotionally shattered with these allegations. They can raise allegations against me as a minister or a person. But they continued to target even my children over baseless allegations,” said Jayalakshmi.
“ The TV channel released visuals of another house in the colony saying it was my house. I was pregnant when the allegations surfaced on media. I delivered my baby in the sixth month. Following this, we were hospitalised for many months. My baby was on the incubator as she only weighed 1 kg during birth. With the blessings of God, I got my daughter alive. During this time, my father got admitted to the hospital due to cardiac disease. I struggled a lot to pay the hospital bills. Oommen Chandy sir helped me a lot realising my financial issues,” PK Jayalakshmi narrated the struggles in her life.
She dismissed the allegations which claimed agriculture loans of Palode family were illegally waived off.
The loans were waived off through lead bank. Banks produced the details related to this. When the bank decided to write off the loan, my department was responsible to certify whether the borrowers belong to ST category, she added.
Five people in Palode family borrowed money. Though the borrowers are no more, their children are receiving notice from the bank demanding repayment of the loan. Before raising allegations against me, they should have sought my explanation. Now, I’m really happy that the vigilance acquitted me from the charges, said PK Jayalakshmi.
