
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has expressed his condolences over the death of poet Sugathakumari. Sugathakumari passed away on Wednesday at Thiruvananthapuram while undergoing treatment for COVID-19.
Pinarayi Vijayan stated through his Facebook page that Sugathakumari always stood up for the nature and women. He added that she proved that making social interventions do not harm poetry in any manner.
Pinarayi Vijayan also acknowledged the poet’s contribution to Malayalam language and poetry though her remarkable poems. Her consideration for nature and all living creatures were reflected in her words as well. Sugathakumari was also actively involved in protests that were organised for Malayalam language and environmental protection, the CM stated.
Sugathakumari also made interventions in women’s issues during her tenure as the Chief of Women’s Commission and provided relief for homeless women by establishing ‘Abhaya’ institution.
Pinarayi Vijayan also stated in his social media post that Sugathakumari’s life was dedicated to poetry and that her death is an irrevocable loss to Malayalam language, poetry and cultural society.
