Thiruvananthapuram: Post-graduate medicos in Kerala would be deployed at the taluk, district and general hospitals in the state from March 1 onwards, said health minister Veena George.
The deployments are part of the National Medical Commission’s district residency training programme for PG medical students.
The availability of second year PG students will be helpful to hospitals. Government medical colleges would become centres of excellence. The move to implement a referral and back referral system is underway, said the minister.
A steering committee and district-level committees were set up to implement the residency programme. The medical education department has issued guidelines. As many as 1,382 PG doctors would be redeployed. It includes students of 19 private medical colleges, nine government medical colleges and RCC.
