Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala government initiated legal proceedings to recover the damages worth Rs 5.2 crore caused by the hartal organised by PFI (Popular Front of India) from its office bearers.
The registration department has handed over the details regarding the properties of PFI and its general secretary Abdul Sathar to the state government. The procedures of confiscation will begin soon on completion of the examination of these documents. The progress of the procedures will be reported to the Supreme Court within 15 days.
The procedures to freeze bank accounts and confiscate the properties of PFI had started soon after NIA recorded the arrest of the office bearers of PFI after banning the organisation. The state government will seize the properties which fall outside the ambit of the NIA proceedings.
The Kerala High Court had censured the state government for delaying the confiscation proceedings as per the directions of the court. Later, the additional chief secretary appeared before the court and apologised for the delay.
