Thiruvananthapuram: In an interesting turn of events, Police have dismissed the statement given by the man who stabbed his daughter’s friend in Pettah here on Wednesday. Lalan Simon (51), the accused in the case stated that he stabbed the youth suspecting that he was a thief. However, the officials have dismissed this statement. 

Aneesh George (19) was stabbed to death at his friend's house in Pettah in the wee hours of Wednesday. Later, the accused surrendered before Pettah police. According to the probe team, Lalan Simon had acquaintance with the youth and his family even before the incident. 

Lalan told police that he stabbed Aneesh suspecting that he was a thief. In the statement to police, he revealed that he woke up after hearing noise from upstairs and saw a stranger there. During the exchange of brawl between the two, the youth was eventually stabbed by Lalu. Simon immediately went to the police station and asked them to take the injured to the hospital. However, the youth was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. 

The investigation found that Aneesh and his family were acquainted with Simon and his family.  The distance between the houses is only three and a half kilometres. According to the investigation team, the accused stabbed the youth after confirming his identity.
