Kottayam: BJP leader PC George was granted bail in a hate speech case on Friday by the Erattupetta Magistrate Court. The case was registered against him over allegedly making highly inflammatory remarks during a television channel debate.
The court considered PC George's health condition while granting bail. Medical reports, including the recommendation for an angiogram, were submitted to the court, which were considered while taking the bail plea. The police report was also examined. The court observed that as the statements had been recorded and evidence collected, there was no need to oppose the bail application.
The bail order will be dispatched to Pala sub-jail shortly. George, who is currently at Kottayam Medical College Hospital under judicial custody, is expected to be released by noon.
The controversial BJP leader had surrendered before the Erattupetta court on February 24 in the case. He was booked under Sections 196(1)(a) and 299 of the BNS, as well as Section 120(o) of the Kerala Police Act.
